Hi, I'm Miriam
and I'm a Scanner. Scanners cringe at the thought of a single career. We are called "flaky", are accused of "lacking focus" and being "afraid of success". We're the people who will say no to promotions so we can go back to school. We quit "promising" jobs to start from scratch in a completely different industry. Why? Because we get bored and we need to avoid boredom at all costs.
Barbara Sher calls us Scanners. Another term is multipotentialites. Personally, I prefer Scanners because the "-potentialite" part sounds like a lot of potential but very little substance, another accusation flung at us. But Barbara taught me that I'm not potential. I'm a real person whose brain is wired differently, who needs to follow her interests and passions, embark on new projects, and research new topics. More importantly, she taught me that I can thrive by embracing my abilities.
In Refuse to Choose Barbara suggests we build a Life's Work Bookshelf for our projects. This site is my Life's Work. I created the first version in May 2022. As you can see on the projects page I didn't go all that far back into past because I'm all about the present and moving forward. There are so many more projects I want to do! Take a look around. I hope you'll find my projects interesting and maybe even inspiring. More importantly, I hope you'll appreciate and value your own interests and projects.
For more information about some of the projects, I've also collected a few resources. If you want to connect or share your own Life's Work Projects Page, feel free to find me through the social media links in the footer. I'd love to hear what you're working on!
