A blanket made of knitted patches in different shades of blue

Knitting a scarf. Or two.

I am a very short person and the average scarf sold in shops is almost always far too long for comfort. So I thought I'd learn to knit and make my own scarf! The result: a beautiful and fluffy black scarf in just the right length for me. I also made a fluffier purple and black one for special occasions.

I moved on to a blanket! The yarn was not ideal for blankets but the cat likes to sleep on it. Next, I became ambitious. Alas, the hat was not a success. I did learn that you definitely need to choose your yarn carefully.

In future, I'll knit my scarfs myself. The length is just too perfect to go back to shop-bought.

I practiced:

  • knitting
  • looking for useful videos on YouTube
A black scarf

I learned:

  • how to knit a scarf
  • how to knit a hat
  • I don't enjoy knitting a hat or a blanket
  • different projects require different types of yarn to be successful
  • I'm somewhat compulsive about finishing projects so that knitting a blanket while watching TV was not relaxing.
