Teaching English
After my PhD I searched for a job that would allow me to travel. I'd already tutored non-native speakers in English so teaching English professionally seemed like a good idea. One month and an intensive course later, I was CELTA certified.
Then COVID broke out. My travelling teaching job turned into my remote job during the pandemic.
I practiced:
- flexibility
- improvisation
- organisation
- teaching English
I learned:
- I enjoy tutoring students individually
- I do not enjoy teaching children under 9 years old
- I don't like working for other people
- because the teaching industry has turned into a service industry, many teachers are afraid too afraid to correct their students and be strict with them
- I don't like the old-fashioned employment model that exchanges time for money
